One person can make a difference- House Bill 716, Regulation of AMCs

If you have not contacted your NC House of Representatives, please do so!  Many of your NCPAC appraiser peers are out there meeting with these Representatives in person, but we need your help as well.  It is not enough to rely on other people to make the effort; one person can make a difference!

In meeting with Rep. Jean Farmer-Butterfield yesterday, we learned some interesting insights on how bills are presented and the chain of command, so to speak.  In this meeting David Cozzarelli, Mike Holt- a Wilson appraiser and constituent of Rep Farmer-Butterfield, and I were informed on the ins and outs of how bills are brought into legislation.  One interesting point Rep. Farmer-Butterfield suggested was that we reemphasize that the Representatives need to hear from their constituents! She implied that unless the people wanted it, she would have a harder time supporting it.  Basically, it is not enough that NCPAC appraiser want this bill, or NCAR wants this bill, she needs to hear that the people of her county want it!

So take 5 minutes out of your day and look up who your representatives are, and then give them a call or write a letter.  It can be as simple as, “I am an appraiser in ____ County, I am an active voter, I support Senate Bill 829, coming to the House as Bill 716, and I want AMCs to be regulated.”  Use the link below to look up who your representatives are, for some counties there are more than one.

We need support to get this bill passed, we need 60 Representatives.  Right now I think we have confirmed that around 15 are in support.  So between now and the spring session we still have a lot of work to do.  So man your phones for 15 minutes and give them a call or take up a letter and post it, whatever you have time for.  One person can make a difference!
